AI pioneer calls for ‘human centered’ computing [*]

In his article, “Why this AI pioneer is calling for ‘human centered’ computing”, Martin Wolk introduces — at least to me — Dr. Fei-Fei Li, creator of ImageNet. In her memoir publishing this year (2013), “The Worlds I See: Curiosity, Exploration, and Discovery at the Dawn of AI” (Flatiron Books), she writes that we should use the AI we develop. To me, this involves using AI as a tool to enhance ones creativity instead of just being replaced by it.

[Dr. Fei-Fei Li]…has become a pioneer of modern artificial intelligence, and a leading voice calling for a “human centered” approach to the rapidly developing technology.

While Li is inspired by the human brain, “the most intricate thinking machine of the universe,” she says the technology of artificial intelligence needs to be understood as very different and complementary — an enhancement, rather than a replacement.
